CDT students win departmental 3 Minute Thesis competition

Three Minute Thesis (3MT) is an academic competition that challenges PhD students to describe their research within 3 minutes to a general audience, using just one PowerPoint slide and no additional props or electronic media. 3MT celebrates the discoveries made by research students and encourages them to communicate the importance of their research to the broader community.

This year’s competitors were a group of 9 amazing PhD student presenters from all different disciplines within UCL Mechanical Engineering with topics ranging from drones, wearable tech, X-ray to breaking waves.

The CDT is proud to announce that two of the first cohort of students won the departmental level of the competition and will now progress to the faculty level competition at UCL. Congratulations to them both!

🥇 1st place: Lisa Chestnutt ("The Making of a Heartbeat")

🥈 2nd place: Isla Henderson ("Using ultrahigh resolution X-ray imaging to understand osteoarthritis progression")
